After the snow melts on the ski slopes of Keystone Colorado, the excitement at this renowned ski destination doesn't melt with it. In fact, Keystone transforms into a center for summer fun! At an altitude of 12,000 feet, Keystone is the perfect place to partake in warm weather leisure while enjoying fresh, breezy mountainous air during the sweltering summer climate.
Keystone's Adventure Center in Lakeside Village opens during the summer months, making it Keystone's headquarters for summer activities. The Adventure Center sells Adventure Passports to tourists lodging in Keystone, so they can advantage of numerous summer activities at discounted rates. The Adventure Center offers a diverse range of things to do, so every type of visitor can find something exciting at Keystone.
Mountain Biking
There are tons of mountain biking trails all over Keystone. The Keystone Bike Park opens in the summer, offering beautiful bike trails at every skill level. Mountain bikers can take their bike up a chair lift and ride over rock drops, coast over bridges, and speed over downhill trails and drop zones. Tourists purchasing an Adventure Passport can attend the free Mountain Bike Clinic, open between June and August at the Adventure Center.
Fly Fishing
Colorado is replete with little creeks and streams, perfect for fly fishing enthusiasts. Day, half day and family packages are available, and professionals will take you to both the hidden and popular fly fishing spots. Never tried fly fishing but want to learn? Attend the Fly Fishing Clinic free at the Adventure Center and instructors will be pleased to show you, before you practice on your own.
Scenic Chair Lifts
To truly experience breathtaking heights and capture postcard perfect snapshots, take a summer scenic chairlift up the Summit Express to view Keystone's mountain ranges. Get a spectacular, unparalleled view of the Dercum Mountains and Lake Dillon and the surrounding area.
Canoeing and Boating
After admiring a bird's eye view of Lake Dillon on a chair lift, why not spend some time on Keystone Lake or Lake Dillon's relaxing waters in a canoe, paddle boat or kayak? White water rafting and sailing is also possible on the lakes, or, for a more challenging experience, organize a day package through the Adventure Center and raft or sail on the Colorado and Blue Rivers nearby.
There are lots of other summer activities such as hiking, golf, summer balloon rides, tours, hunting and horseback riding that tourists can organize either on their own or through Keystone's Adventure Center.
In addition, the Adventure Center co-ordinates lots of themed, summer, daily adventures. Beginning in June, tourists can learn how chocolate fudge is made at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, or participate in a Discovery Stroll, a guided, scenic walk through Snake River Valley.
In July, kids and adults can jump on board the Bungee Trampoline, while food connoisseurs can enjoy wine tasting demonstrations at the Tenderfoot Keystone Lounge and Spa. Animal lovers can learn all about the Colorado Beaver at the Adventure Center's Beaver Prowl, while golf enthusiasts can improve their swing at the Golf Clinic at the Keystone Ranch Golf Course.
And regardless of your interests, everyone can admire the fireworks in Keystone's Lakeside Village, held every Saturday night from July to September.
Keystone offers lots of exciting summer fun, for families, couples and singles alike, making it both a winter wonderland for snow sports and the summer center for a sizzling hot holiday.
