Should US environmental standards apply when multinational companies develop the petroleum resources of fragile ecosystems such as Peru's Amazon?

Title endorsed in part by:

Whether the United States have environmental standards or not, (but it should be, because US has a higher educational standard and everything has rules and regulations to follow, especially environmental standard, to ensure the safety of its citizen), environmental standards should apply to all companies that develop the petroleum supply from the Peru's Amazon, to protect the ecosystem and life. Either for research or exploration or production, they should start with environmental standard to follow.

Amazon is a river in N. South America, flowing east from Peruvian Andes through North Brazil to the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest river in the world in volume of water carried, 3,900 miles long. (Amazon's description from Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary). Putting together the Nile, the Mississippi and the Yangtze rivers, Amazon River contains more water. The extension of the river is longer from the route of New York to San Francisco. The flow of the river is very slow because it is coming from the lowland. Therefore polluting the river means death to all species. (Information is from The World Book Encyclopedia, Volume 1).

Ecosystem is a system formed by the interaction of a community of organism with their environment. It is a system of give and take, recycle process and mutual relationship. For example, the giving off of carbon dioxide by animals and the giving off of oxygen by plants is very important to ecosystem. Another process is, the waste of the species become the food for another. The dead plants and animals become the fertilizer, for the forests in the Amazons that supply the best lumber around the world. The dead timber, become the food for the growing seeds to replace the open space. (Some of the information came from the MSN research, the Ecosystem).

Water supply resources are from the rivers, lakes, rain, snow, and recycled from the usage. It is very important to have water supply for our needs everyday and to continue to live. We drink, wash, shower, with water. We enjoy swimming, kayaking, boating, and even watching the water. Water gives cool feeling especially during summer time. Plants and animals also need water to continue life cycle and their existence. Because of the importance of water in ecosystem and life, conservation should be needed and be given emphasis. Amazon river should be protected because it is the largest water that runs all over.

Now that we have learned about the Amazons, ecosystem and the water
