Perfume reviews: Christina Aguilera

by Susan Hibberd

Created on: February 02, 2008

Christina Aguilera has reinvented herself time and time again, and now it is time for her to be a perfumer!

The hype says that she has always wanted to make her own perfume, but then she would say that, wouldn't she? Seriously, though, making perfume is something that every little girl tries to do with crushed rose petals and tap water, so if a celebrity has the money, why shouldn't she create a perfume?

The bottle for this product is a lot nicer than some of the other celebrity perfumes. It has a nice feminine shape, and is pretty pale pink with a wrap of black lace. There is a little black bow at the neck of the bottle, and the whole effect is that of a Wild West barmaid. The bottle fits nicely into the hand and looks great on the dressing table. Although it is pink and lacy, it still has a contemporary feel to it. It looks a bit naughty, like having your underwear on show!

The perfume itself is quite fruity. It contains notes of "delicious exotic fruit sorbet, sparkling tangerine and mouth-watering blackcurrant tea, heart notes of jasmine, peony and plum and lingering base notes of musk, amber, precious woods mixed with the creamy vanilla ", which all add up to quite an appealing perfume! The fruitiness isn't too overpowering, and because it's not too flowery, is doesn't only appeal to the younger woman like many celebrity scents.

This perfume was allegedly inspired by Christina's own personal memories. "To me jasmine has always been synonymous with old movie star glamor. It is such a beautiful scent and has great heritage in traditional perfumery, which I love. The blackcurrant tea note for me captures the vibrancy and happiness of my honeymoon. Its fruity, mouth watering scent reminds me of sitting on our Bali veranda in the heat, looking out over the most gorgeous sunset while sipping a cool, refreshing cocktail".

Whatever the hype, this has proved to be a very successful perfume. It is one of the top selling perfumes in the UK. I think it is a nice perfume, and I would recommend it to my friends. I can't put my finger on what the overall smell is, which is a good thing. I think it would suit a young woman, older than a teen, but not too mature. It is a quality perfume, and the fact that it is a celebrity scent shouldn't put you off trying it.

Christina Aguilera' is available in the UK in 30ml, 50ml and 75ml Eau de Parfum spray and in a 200ml Body Lotion. It is rather more expensive than other celebrity perfumes, retailing at about 25 for the 30ml size.
