Life, liberty and an SUV: Can we all live like Americans?

I'm Canadian and I feel Oil Companies are part of the problem of our coming recession .I believe governments are not harnessing their greed in the least and this will destroy a lot of hard working people .

This morning on the news I hear the numbers of oil companies profits and I ask myself why governments don't do something in this oil dependent world to harness the greed? Is it that many of the elected are making profits from oil companies stocks? Is this not the major problem bringing us to economic meltdown the high oil prices ?

2 years ago I spent the summer in Alberta's oil fields while there I heard talk of Alberta maybe having 10 times the oil of Saudi Arabia .Every day new discoveries was being found . It sounded like good news . Money was flowing in them oil fields at a staggering level . People I knew from the east coast was becoming millionaires almost overnight . Service Companies could charge almost any thing they wanted to oil companies for services and was never a argument . The company I worked for often billed the oil companies 6 hours for 1 hour and the oil companies was all for it . Labourers there now can make 100,000 a year and trade workers much more It really is booming out there with these high oil prices . That kind of profits even after throwing money around out there the way they do is mind boggling .

So I guess Canada s lucky to have so much oil . Then I get to thinking what good does it do Canadians that are not moving to the oil patches or owning in oil companies ?

I'm back home fishing now and i pay 1.17 cents a liter for gas to get to work . After I get to work I earn almost nothing as my boat can now burn 1000 dollars a day in fuel with these high oil prices . Then when I get home with what little pay I get after working all week to just pay our fuel bill ,then i find my Oil tank for home heating is almost empty .Now it cost 1000 dollars to fill my oil barrel . And here in minus 15 degree temperatures we really burn the oil . The way as I can figure it all out I've become nothing but a slave to oil companies . Most my labor just goes to paying huge fees for oil .

I just can not figure out how its good news to me when I hear Canada maybe is full of oil?

Is it wise for government to allow oil companies to do this to our countries? I know many fishing boats that have gone bankrupt recently all because of the fuel oil prices .I suspect every hing we buy now is high priced due to high oil prices in production .

Is there any hope for our economy's if Oil companies greed is not harnessed ? George Bush being involved in oil companies becoming president really may of started our downfall . THE HELL WITH the world oil prices let some of the other people in our countries have room to make a profit too . This is just crazy what our governments are allowing in front of us .

I hear oil companies here are even closing refinery's at night just to make shortages in the winter so they can drive prices up . What kind of fools are we to allow a few oil companies to destroy our countries ?
