There is an American Indian proverb in which the wise men say that within our hearts are two wolves. One wolf represents fear, hatred, jealousy, rage, sorrow, doubt... all the negative emotions. The other wolf represents joy, love, forgiveness, peace of mind, and all the positive emotions. Both wolves battle constantly in our hearts and depending on which wolf is winning the fight, that determines whether we make right or wrong decisions.
When asked which wolf is stronger, the wise men answer, "whichever wolf you have been feeding."
Which wolf have you been feeding in your life? What kind of input are you allowing into your brain? Because what we put into our brains is what we think about and what we think about is the direction our lives proceed in (whether consciously or unconsciously). Unfortunately we are so bombarded by negative in the media and our daily lives that negative has become the standard that we live our lives by. And people wonder why we have such a high suicide, depression, and divorce rate in this country.
I assume that most people when they get married would like to have a happy and prosperous marriage. If that's you, then stop watching television shows that glorify adultery. Or shows that depict the father as an imbecile that the wife and children could not possibly respect. If you want to be successful financially, then stop watching shows where all the rich people are the wicked and manipulative antagonists. I know that doesn't leave much to watch... but then again, most of the wealthy, successful people I know with healthy marriages don't watch a lot of television so maybe there's a causal relationship there.
Feed the good wolf. Stop reading tabloids, gossip columns, and trashy romance novels where the characters fall in love over a weekend of tawdry, adulterous sex. Start reading positive mental attitude books, success principle books, and relationship books. Stop watching crappy television and start watching... well, just stop watching television (all the producers are evil wolves). Don't participate in conversations that revolve around belittling individuals. Do surround yourself with people that uplift and inspire you.
If you want to lose weight and or get in shape, all you have to do is burn more calories than you take in and you'll start to develop the body that you want. Think of this as your new mental fitness regimen. All you have to do is feed the good wolf more than the bad wolf, and you'll start to develop into the kind of person that you want to be.
