Pollution is a major thing these days! Some people like to see it as a problem in itself, but we can see it from a different viewpoint if you think about it carefully.
Pollution does not just occur per se. There are various underlying causes that should be addressed. We must look at the origins of this problem in order to solve it. Just like a traditional chinese medicine physician would study the source at its most basic level, so should we.
While the media and environmental groups are always bombarding the western world with the idea that they are the major causes of pollution, this may not necessarily be the case. While it is true that American industry does indeed contribute to this problem, there is another reason/group of people just as responsible.
Firstly it pays to address the idea that pollution is caused by human greed! In order for the economy to flow, we need systems such as primary industry. Often used for mass production, such plants may generate jobs for people, but toxic and noxious gaseous byproducts get formed and released into the atmosphere. That, in turn, becomes pollution.
However, do not forget that if greed is human nature, it is more than just civilised societies that are guilty of harboring such greed and being responsible for pollution.
In south-east asia, we can see that Indonesian farmers are just as responsible. These men are not driven by the rich western societies per se, but they are looking for a ticket out of their poverty-stricken lives. As such, when their farming land turns barren, they resort to burning the plantations en masse and causing pollution to a similar extent.
However, do not be quick to point your finger at their ignorance. In many instances, it is the lack of education in their society that causes their oblivion. When interviewed by reporters, the guilty parties simply state that the smoke produced by their actions simply disappear into thin air. Clearly they havent been educated enough to understand wind patterns.
Similarly, this sort of activity is occuring in places like South America, and parts of Africa itself.
In our hunt for the most polluted places in the world, we cannot draw a simple and definite answer. However, it pays to keep in mind that poorer countries have as much potential to pollute the environment as richer countries.
Let us educate the people of the world so that pollution can be minimised.
A greener earth is possible if every one of us plays a part!
