There are two ways to look at the best gifts for cheap bosses. Consider the first option, buying a gift for a boss that is known for not reciprocating in kind. In other words, the guy is cheap, so this is a case of, you don't want to give better than you get. This is especially true when you are making a purchase for someone that rakes in double or triple your own salary. At the same time, you don't want to give something cheesy, or be outdone by coworkers.
Remember the old adage; the way to a man's heart is through his stomach? Well this applies to bosses of both genders as well, and presentation is key. Purchase some holiday-themed tins, you can pick these up all year long at yard sales and flea markets and if you are winging it at the last minute, check out the dollar store nearest you. If you come up empty handed, then use an appropriate colored sturdy paper plate and after wrapping them in plastic wrap, put on a layer of wrapping paper with a bow on top.
Then when you do your holiday baking, make an extra batch of goodies to put in the tin. It shows you put both time and effort into it; and will be great to have sitting on the desk when the after-lunch cravings hit. If the boss doesn't eat goodies, they still can come in handy for taking home to the family or to share at holiday parties.
If you don't bake, that's okay; you can make an all-occasion basket. Baskets are all the rage these days, and you can use any theme to personalize it. Baskets galore are available in most dollar stores and then you can either stick with the food theme and put in microwave popcorn and candy bars and even fruit; or you can go the practical route and put in a deck of cards with a paperback novel or colorful post-it-notes and pens and pencils. Shrink wrap from a craft store is s really puts the finishing touch on the basket without adding much to the cost. If shrink wrap is not an option, clear wrapping paper works just fine and that can be found in the dollar stores. Tucking in some shredded paper adds to the appearance of the basket and helps to keep the items settled. You can also use the fake snow that (you guessed it) is sold in the dollar store.
Now, the other option for best gifts for cheap bosses would be inexpensive gifts that the boss can buy in bulk to give to their employees. Depending on how many employees work under you, making baskets might not be an option, it is inexpensive, but it might be time consuming making one basket verses making twenty can mean the difference
