An introduction to microdermabrasion treatments

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that has the skin being buffed by aluminum oxide or professional grade exfoliating crystals to take away the top layer of the skin better know as the epidermis. Microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the deep layer of the dermis. It cleans your pores and helps to stop future breaks outs if used as directed. You will have a very soft, supple, youthful look to your skin.

Microdermabrasion can also stimulate collagen, even out your skin tone, texture and appearance. Even those with acne, small scars, and sun damage will benefit greatly from this process. Those aging brown spots, fine lines and wrinkles will also diminish. As with most procedures, with the Microdermabrasion using a gentle hand is required and always avoid the eye area. Using too much pressure could result in very red and sore irratated skin. Always follow with a replenishing cream or moisturizer.

Depending on the type of system you want to use and your current skin care regimen, there are some with a small hand held machine like Neutrogena, that may be to your liking. You move it in small circular motions, you must use this type with caution. It takes very little pressure. With the ROC you have a small pad that you slip your fingers in, one side to exfoliate the other to moisturize. Very convenient. With Mary Kay you use your fingers and lightly move them in a circular motion over damp skin. Then there is a replenish serum to put on after you have rinsed. As with ROC, Mary Kay is gentle enough to use every two to three days.

The prices range from $9.99 (ROC) to the 199.99 procedure that you get at your local dermatologist office. Spas offer the procedure for $49.00 and up. This all depends on the amount you want to spend on your skin care regimen.

Microdermabrasion has been around for years and has progressed from dermatologist offices to mainstream spas. It is now offered in department stores or drug stores near you. From Mary Kay to ROC to Avon to the brands that you get on QVC, your choices are unlimited.

Be sure to follow the directions precisely to avoid any skin damage or irratancy. Remember, the more you use it the better your results.
