A tough question it is, though not much thought needs to go into the answer. Bloggers are in some cases very good writers and journalists and by all means they deserve every credential they get, the problem being those talented bloggers are only a minority. The majority of bloggers are no talent hacks trying to be something they aren't or just looking to tap into some internet dollars.
These flukes have no credit to their name and rightfully so because they don't deserve it, to get credentials to cover these kind of events you need to have allot of mainstream published work and show that you have earned your spot and deserve to be where you are. No experience equals less rights and that is why bloggers haven't got the skill to cover events of this magnitude.
The reason bloggers and citizen journalists have those titles because they have not done enough writing to qualify for a mainstream media job, this argument is not about equal rights for all forms of journalism its about the fact that the citizen journalists and blog writers of the world have not done enough yet or are not talented enough to do anything at a mainstream media level.
Journalism is no joke it requires an iron will to succeed and a lot of guts to the stuff that some journalists do. You need a lot of informers to get the right information for your piece of work, with bad information your credibility can go drastically down in a heart beat.
The qualifications need to be a journalistic level writer are not something any half wit with a pen and paper can get, these diplomas and degrees are just as hard to get as any other profession these are anything but pushover courses.
The main reason I think for this question being posed in the first indication that bloggers want more respect as journalists and writers, the problem being is that no offence to bloggers that is why you are bloggers because you haven't got a press pass, writing isn't your day job and you don't match up to the skill of the other people you potentially would be sharing a room with.
You must understand that though this article may sound like an attack on all of you but I can safely assure you that it is anything but. I respect that you have opinions and ideas but you are considered the amateurs of writing, unfortunately, this is the case and you have to deal with the fact that blog writers and citizen journalists are the little leagues of journalism, and the people who went to college who have spent their whole lives perfecting their craft these are the qualified the experienced and by far the best, these are considered the masters of the game.
