Leadership trumps race and gender

America will be electing a Democratic President this year, and whether it's Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, one of them will earn their place in history. Can you imagine that? A woman or African-American becoming President of the United States. Why that's what, the "American Dream" is all about, and it would hopefully, represent a change in America's attitude and appearance toward itself, and the rest of the world. We should be so lucky.

Now, since I am African-American male, a few people I know, assume that I am going to vote for Obama. But, that is not a fair assessment of whom I am, particularly when it comes to my political and social viewpoints. Besides, you know what can happen when you start to "assume" things. Heck, I like women, and though Hillary may not be attractive to many folks, I wouldn't complain about being in her company. For me, or anyone else, to consider a Presidential Candidate strictly on race, religion, or gender would be making a decision with the heart and not the mind. And my mind tells me, we need a President, who is capable of providing something we have not had in this current administration. Leadership.

We need a President, who is capable of leading this country, not with the heart, but with the mind. It is a gift which is not bestowed upon a particular race, religion or gender. A leader does just lead, but inspires and motivates. Because, whoever becomes President must understand that they have a lot of work to do. I myself, see the first two years, as ones of restoration. He or she will have to restore this country's reputation, its principles, and its confidence, and not only to Americans, but to the people of the world. They will be forced to confront a variety of issues, policies, and actions that will have consequences for generations to come. Yet, through all those moments of confusion, and frustration, and despair. There must be moments of hope, and faith, and compassion.

The current economic, educational, and environmental status in America are appalling and immoral. Our government has been infected with a variety of corruption and unethical practices. And because of its mishandling of international events and circumstances, our position as the leader of justice and fairness in the world community, is being questioned. Plus, we are fighting a war that has no end or even victory. I admit that most of these problems and situations were not caused by the current administration. But their lack of leadership and common sense
