When trying to decide which type of computer you should choose, you have to think long term.
Some people are only focused on the price and want the least expensive choice. As a result, they might say that a desktop is best if you only have one computer. The truth is the desktop is cheaper for the same options. Some of the less expensive desktops can cost around $350. As for laptops, some of the less expensive laptops can cost around $500. But if you are only going to have one computer, the best type of computer to have is a laptop. The main two reasons for that statement is that a laptop is portable and it is a space saver.
Space Saver
In many households, space is a premium. Many people live in apartments, condos, or townhouses. These offer less living space. As a result, less and less people have an extra room to use as their office. Without a dedicated room to the computer, the big bulky computer desks are not as common as they used to be. As a result, the laptop computer is a more viable option for these people. With a laptop, you can work at the kitchen table or a small desk instead of designating a specific area as the "computer area".
Portable
The portability of the laptop is a major plus. Working on the computer does not mean that you are separated from the rest of the family. If everyone is in the family room, you can bring the laptop with you and work amidst the family. Laptops are great for traveling also. If you are working on a project, you can take your laptop with you and not lose or waste any time working. Many hotels offer wireless internet. While you are staying at one of these hotels, you can check your email. Someone might bring up the objection that you have to be careful not to drop your laptop because it is fragile. Buying a desktop does not mean that it cannot fall off your desk. In the end, a laptop will fare much better in a fall than a desktop will.
It is true that you might have to pay a little more for the laptop, but in the end it will be worth the money. With a desktop, your office is fixed in one spot. With a laptop, your office is wherever you want it to be.
