MEANING OF LIFE

We all wonder from time to time what the heck we are doing here. Sometimes I feel like a hamster just going round and round and round on that squeaky little wheel and getting absolutely nowhere. There are times when I imagine myself as a tiny little pin prick on this huge canvas we call earth. How significant are we, really, in the scheme of things?

You know how we can see microorganisms under a microscope? Well, what if we are mere microorganisms in someone else's world? I see a huge eyeball looking at us, checking us out as we tick along in our silly lives, completely unaware that we are but part of someone else's system. These beings see one of us having a wreck and then the little ambulance with little men in it rush over to pick up the dead and clean up the area so that it's like it never happened. And the rest of us just keep going on our way, oblivious to the tragedy that has just occurred. Life goes on. We go on.

These beings see us coming into our little homes and doing what we do. Clean, eat, bathe, argue, sleep, whatever. Then they watch us coming out of our homes, get into our cars, and drive to go do what we do, day in and day out. Maybe the platelets inside our bodies are an actual civilization that does exactly what we do, and WE are the giant eyeball looking in at their world every now and then. They have families, go to work, and die off. There are some funky ones that make us feel sick just like the funky people of our society who make the world a sick place at times.

Are we really that insignificant? We are if we think we are. It doesn't matter how small we actually are in the universal scheme of things. What matters is that in our own little world, our own small piece of the earth, we make a difference. Yes, we are all part of the whole earth; we are all connected somehow. The question is: how are you impacting those who come in contact with you? Are you a burden or a blessing? Do other people matter to you or is it all about you? At the end of they day, how good do you feel about the oxygen you have taken up, the aftermath you have left behind, and the use of your God-given minutes?

We are here for a few mere minutes after all. You're here and then you're not. How will what you do today affect three generations from now? Nobody will remember you in three generations. Oh, they might think of you for a fleeting moment when someone decides to do some genealogy. But you'll still only be a one-dimensional image on paper. How you spoke, how you moved, how you smelled, everything about you will long have faded into history. Life for these future generations, though, will have been greatly affected by the things you do with your life today.

Make life count. Make a difference. Your future generations are waiting in the wings; trusting that you won't screw it up for them. Make them proud.
