Is global warming as bad as it is made out to be? The answer to that question is probably yes, but there is a lack of understanding in exactly how, where and when it will affect.

In addition to the impact by motor vehicles, there has been a lot of discussion surrounding the impact that aircraft travel has on global warming. Whilst this is true, one has to look at the impact of a significant reduction of aircraft travel. It is actually a duel edged sword.

Yes, it will reduce emissions, but such a reduction in air travel will also increase global warming. It was proven that, in the 24 hours post 9/11, when there was a major reduction in movement by air, that there was a 1% increase in the temperature of the atmosphere. The reason for this is that aircraft leave a trail of fuel vapour. With the amount of aircraft movement, these trails are global. They act as a shield against the sun's rays that break through the whole in the ozone layer.

Global warming is a growing problem, but will become even more of one if we do not attack it in a controlled manner.
