Every day the worlds population grows. Six billion and counting .....
More food is needed. More resources are used. More everything is moved around on the earths' surface. Consumption, consumption, consumption. All of which takes energy which creates heat. Most of which wouldn't 'naturally' occur. It would seem that with so much MORE everything taking place that humans must be having an impact globally.
In spite of this there are those who refuse to accept that global warming is anything other than an aberration. An exaggeration. A media trick to sell newspapers. Each day I read both sides of the debate and then compare it with what I see going on on the bigger stage.
Since the normal references don't appear to shake the belief of the doubters I would like to add two examples to the debate that surely give rise to the notion that the heat that humans are creating must be having an impact. Please consider the following:
I moved to Germany from Canada four years ago. In my 40's I've come to the German language late in life and find that I can satisfy my thirst for knowledge better by gathering information through the Internet. Unlike television or print 'news' which often seems to be presented from a biased point of view I'm free to go anywhere in the world on the net. Naturally that means I can visit old sources of information from Canada as well as add fresh voices from any other English source (and to a lesser extent German too).
About a week ago I came across an article describing a slowing of natural gas sales to the U.S. from Canada. As this was backwards to my expectation of ever increasing energy sales I looked deeper and found this rather alarming explanation.
For many years now Canada has been producing in the range of 10 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. A portion is used and the remainder sold outside the country - principally to the United States. However, there is a greater need today for oil than in the past due to the instability of supplies and an ever growing worldwide consumption (especially from China and India). Since oil produces bigger profits Canadians are drilling fewer gas wells and ramping up oil production.
Now I realize that most people around the world think that the major deposits of oil in the world are in the Middle East or Russia, but that isn't right. The two biggest deposits are in northern Alberta in Canada (principally) and the Orinoco valley of Venezuela, either of which is far greater than the combined amount from the
