Testimonies: Why I play role-playing games

As a female player of MMORPG's (Multi-Media Online Role Playing Games), I have many reasons why I play each game. Mine are most likely as diverse as the next person's reasons, but I have chosen to share them with you, my readers.

"Time With My Children" - How many parents can say that they are more then willing to sit down and play games after the ritual cleaning of the house on Saturdays? I am sure that I cannot answer that question, except to say, I do! These games give me the uninterrupted time to spend with my children in an environment that safely allows them to meet people from all walks of life. Their socialization skills are developing at rates moving faster then warp speed on the Star Ship Enterprise. They have learned to talk to, deal with and resolve issues with people from all over the world. And I am the coolest Mom on the face of the Earth because I will sit and play for a few hours with my kids.

"Adult Socialization" - Many of us have jobs which keep us working much longer then the typical 8-4 workday. When it's 9:00 PM on Monday night, do you want to go out and meet people? I know that I don't. But I can come home, cuddle up in my favorite pajamas and slippers, and talk to any one of the thousands of people that are online playing games. That bar definitely won't let me meet many people from Australia, but this online game does!

"Get Away" - How many times have you wished that you could take an hour of time for just you? Where you don't have to deal with your kids, your spouse, your bills or any other number of real life woes? MMORPG's will allow you to delve into a fantasy world of dragons, knights, trolls, and more...and the worries about real life can be put on the back shelf for an hour or so!

Of course, there are probably a thousand other little reasons why I love to play MMORPG's. I have met many wonderful people, including my husband, my daughter's godfather and our best friends who come to visit every few months. As with all online activities, you have to be very careful to take care of yourself first and not take silly chances. But a world of opportunities to meet and understand people from all over the world awaits you in the land of MMORPG's!
