The destruction of Britney Spears has become an industry unto itself. As one of the many who does not know her personally, I can only offer you what I assume happened to her.
Britney Spears is a former child star. Her career began when she was on the Mickey Mouse Club. She landed a record deal, and the first single she had ever put out completely blew up, and she had been launched into the stratosphere of celebrity.
Having her career begin that early means that she lost out on the rites of passage that every other adolescent in America goes through. Meeting people, making friends, going to parties, experimenting or not experimenting with alcohol, drugs, or sex, going to school, going to dances, everything that us "regular folk" think nothing of.
She had met someone she thought she was in love with, someone who already had a girlfriend who was pregnant with their next child. If I were her, I would never have gotten myself involved with a man who already had a girlfriend. If he left his pregnant girlfriend that easily for her, then he can just as easily leave Britney.
I should know because that is exactly what happened to me. I was the one left by the person she thought she was going to marry, who's baby she would soon be having. Being pregnant with your significant other's child is not a guarantee that they will stay with you. It is not a guarantee to the wonderful world of happily ever after.
I digress.
She dated this man, married this man, had a child with this man. She was dealing with her husband not being around much because he was off partying or doing whatever it was he was doing. She is a first time mother dealing with a newborn. I'm sure she had help from her family, but that doesn't make it any less hard. Her relationship with her husband is deteriorating. She is possibly dealing with post-partum depression. Her marriage comes to an end. Her music career has stalled. She is dealing with the possibility that her career peaked before she was even at the legal drinking age, and that it quite possibly could be all downhill from here.
All of these very private matters are being broad casted on every TV and print tabloid imaginable.
She is drowning, but no one truly wants to offer her a life vest, because there is too much money to be had. This is what our media in America has come to; do not truly help those who need it, because you can make a living off of making fun of their demise.
I can only hope that the people who truly love her are doing whatever possible to get her help, because there is not much thread left on this unraveling woman. She has already just failed one suicide attempt; she may just be successful at the next one if she does not receive the proper care. Wake up, everyone. This is deeper than just another spoiled celebrity having a temper tantrum, this is a mother's sanity on the line.
