How to get back into the groove of crocheting

I used to be an avid Crocheter. I loved it. I found it relaxing and my mind would drift. I could day dream. Or I could watch television and just leisurely crochet. It was wonderful.

I had learned to crochet at my mothers knee and I always enjoyed making colorful things. Especially afghans. I've made some stunning ones in my life. But then I got married and my love of crochet seemed to fall at the wayside. My husband seems to think its an 'old lady' hobby. So I guess I let him influence me more then I should have and I just stopped doing it. That and I had no reason to crochet. What was I going to do with all the colorful throws I would make, etc. Stuff then in the closet and rotate them on the beds and couch ever so often.

But now I have a beautiful baby girl. She is just nineteen months old and I'm also expecting another baby in March. Now it seems like crocheting has taken on a whole new meaning for me. I want my babies to grow up the way that I did. Which means watching me crochet for them. I treasure the afghans that I own that my mother made so many years ago. She passed away some time ago so then every treasure that she made took on a whole new meaning for me. So I guess I want to leave those same crochet treasures for my own children someday. Plus I hope that by watching me crochet my daughter will someday take and interest in it and grow up to love it as much as I do.

So I decided to undertake a fairly simple afghan since it had been so many years since I worked one before. I chose a shell stitch with three stands worked with a Q size hook. So this afghan makes up fast is heavy and warm. But its taken me some time to get into the groove of things again. I actually find my arm and wrist sore crocheting. I never knew I used muscles to crochet but I guess not using those muscles in so many years has made me weak or something because I'm actually a bit sore from making this afghan. But so far I'm managing to pick up speed and flow along easily enough. I'm already halfway done with this afghan and I'm really happy about it. Its looking lovely and I have a deep sense of accomplishment. I'm sorry that I let my love of crochet lie dormant for so long because I'm really enjoying it and I find it very relaxing and soothing. Especially during this pregnancy.
