How to make a beaded choker

This beaded jewelry project combines delicate pearl beads with porcelain roses in your choice of colors. Designed to mimic the beautiful chokers of the Victorian age, this piece of jewelry is a delightful piece to wear at a wedding, with a feminine outfit, or give as a gift to your favorite lady. Read the article below to learn how to create this antique style rose and pearl choker beaded jewelry project.

Beaded Jewelry Project - Materials Needed

This romantic beaded choker is made without thread or cord of any type. Instead, you will need about thirty eyepins. While you can use the silver or gold tone, the finished jewelry project will look more antique if you use black or antiqued silver tone headpins. You will also need a matching necklace clasp.

The beads needed for this project are four millimeter off-white or cream colored round pearls. Of course, you can use natural pearls or faux pearl beads. You should also have one larger pearl teardrop shaped bead, one three-quarter inch wooden bead, and several tiny porcelain roses in your choice of colors.

You will also need a pair of round-nosed pliers and strong, clear-drying craft glue.

Beaded Jewelry Project - Creating the Rose Bead

Begin this beaded jewelry project by creating the rose bead accent piece. Begin by sticking the wooden bead onto the end of a pencil or chopstick to hold it. Apply the craft or jewelry glue liberally and attach the porcelain roses to all sides of the bead. The roses should completely cover the bead except for the holes on either side. Allow this to dry completely before using.

If you cannot find porcelain or clay roses that are appropriate for this beaded jewelry project, you can make your own with polymer or oven-bake clay.

Beaded Jewelry Project - Making the Choker Necklace

This antique style rose and pearl choker is fashioned from a large number of pearl beads strung on the eye pins and attached together like a chain. String one pearl bead on each eye pin, clip it short, and use the pliers to curl the other end over in a perfect loop. Attach each one of these pieces together to form a chain long enough to finish the necklace. Secure the clasp to the ends.

Next, find the exact middle of the necklace. Measure out two eyepin lengths on each side. Then, attach a total of six beaded eyepins to these loops. You should have a hanging loop that is slightly bigger than the necklace itself.

String one round pearl bead and the rose bead onto another eye pin. Then, thread the pearly teardrop bead onto one more. Attach the top of the teardrop bead to the bottom of the rose bead pin, and then attach the whole dangle to the center of the necklace. The antique-style rose and pearl choker is complete.
