Tips for coping with stress

Stress is so pervasive, that it seems to permeate everywhere and everybody. It is a different thing to different people. I will like to define stress as "any situation or action that places special physical or psychological demands on you." In fact as we look closely stress consists of a pattern of symptoms that involves a non-specific response to a stimulus from the environment that we are in.

There is stress in all types of occupation; from professional, executive and even to ordinary manual laborer. Doctors today have found that there is also growing confirmation of the role of stress in Heart Disease, Hypertension, Sudden Death, Depression, Anxiety, Smoking, Obesity, Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, Cancer, Arthritis, Gastrointestinal Problems, Skin Diseases, and Immune System Disorders. It's hard to get through a day without hearing about stress. Hence, it is my hope that upon going through this article you will be less stressful and able to find a solution to overcome it.

Since we spend a great deal of our time doing some form of work, I will list out some areas where stress is commonly found.
1. Job Factors
too much work
time pressure/deadlines
poor working conditions
too many decisions

2. Role in Organization
role ambiguity
role conflict
no participation in decision-making
lack of managerial organization

3. Relations within Organization
boss
colleagues, subordinates
difficulties delegating responsibility
office politics

4. Career Development
promotions
lack of job security
fear of redundancy/retirement
thwarted ambition

5. Individual Factors
inability to cope with change
declining abilities
conflict with family demands or own interests

After knowing briefly where the sources of stress, let's see how you can reduce the stresses in life and live a triumphant but less stressful life with much contentment. Yes, it is true that no one can escape the struggle in life. This fact was made known to the ancient wise man of God, Job of the Bible, said in Job 14: 1" Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble." However, if one overcomes to be the slave of stress, he/she will be the Lord over stress.

Every one of us can reduces stress and manage it well. All it takes is a little time and effort. You can do it by following the strategies below.

1. Individual effort
A. avoid/minimize/modify exposures.
B. developing personal skills to do your job more efficiently.
C. initiate forming support group.
D. modifies your lifestyle: physical fitness,
