Choosing between being clever or being good-looking

Choosing between one of two extremes, that have no real relevance to each other. Hmmm...which shall I pick? Do I really even have a choice in the first place, and if i do, why not both? Being clever is one thing, being intelligent or wise is quite another, and being good looking is completely relative.

I admit, I do consider myself to be one of the lucky people that proudly displays both attributes, but when I do feel ugly or think that my appearance has had better days, it does change my behavior. It doesn't matter to me as much how clever I am for I then lack the confidence to use it in the first place. Perhaps this is my own issue to overcome, but one cannot deny that with beauty comes confidence. With confidence one speaks in such a way that will deem them clever whether they are or not. It is all in perception and self-perception is by far the most important. We are seen by others in the way that we see ourselves. If we feel gloomy, we look gloomy, and other people will recognize that. If we feel beautiful, we look beautiful even if we aren't the stereotypical fashion model that we may wish ourselves to be.

Being clever, is something learned. It's a skill that anyone can have should they choose to. I suppose the 'pretty' people remain ignorant and idiotic because they think that their looks are all that they need to get by. Those, unfortunately, are the ones that learn the hard way, and much later in life, what life is really all about.

In the end to choose to be one or the other is like choosing whether or not you will wear only jeans or skirts for the rest of your life. Things change, life happens and what truly becomes important is that you remain your own unique, individual self that makes this world so great in the first place. Accept who you are, and if for whatever reason you feel inadequate, do something to change, you have the ability to do so. And I do not mean plastic surgery, I mean go to school or your local library if you feel your not clever or witty enough, and give yourself a makeover if you feel 'ugly'. Like Coldplay says, "Your in control over everything you want to know, your in control over everywhere you want to go. The future is for discovering, a space in which we travel in." Be the best version of yourself and accept it flaws and all.
