How to be realistic about your job search

the saying that nothing comes easy, even to those who you may believe have had an easy ride; this is not the case in the majority of instances. The harder you work the more success you will have. This also applies to the job search. Sitting on your couch reading the job ads will not bring that job to your lap. You need to act upon what you see. The more effort you put into your job search in terms of making phone calls, delivering CV, talking to consultants and attending interviews, the greater the chance of you finding the position you desire. Be realistic, you have to go out and find your job as it is unlikely to find you.

When searching for a job it is important to approach the process with realism. You need to avoid setting your hopes to high in terms of either position or salary as disappointment can often make the task of searching harder. Similarly, you need to apply yourself to the job search, not wait until something suitable finds you, because that is unlikely to happen. It is also important to be realistic about the future opportunities the job offers. Sometimes it is better to accept a slightly lower salary now and know that there is a solid career path within an organisation, rather than just look for the dollars or pounds. Finally, if you put the effort into your job search you will be rewarded.
