The case for civil rights for minors

it took the senators more than twelve pages to phrase each of their recommendations. This is where succinct and verbose were colliding!

I can just imagine; one of the recommendations could suggest how to toilette-train a child; another, perhaps, how to teach children proper oral care, like brushing their teeth after a meal!

Ridiculous, wouldn't you say? You bet it is!

Not my favorite Canadian Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Joseph Philippe Pierre Yves Elliott Trudeau once quipped: The state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation. More than twenty years after Trudeau quit politics and since died, the still Liberal Senate wants to get the state back into the nation's bedrooms so to speak.

Are these senators mad? You should be the judge of that! Here are some of their recommendations.

High on the list of recommendations is the call for Canada (as a country, not as Canadian parents) to ban spanking!

The Government of Canada should also launch an information campaign (more Royal Commissions, more taxpayer dollars wasted) to ban all forms of corporal punishment!

The Government of Canada should develop a strategy to combat bullying at schools, on playgrounds and on our streets (in our homes too, I'd presume, although that was not spelled out) and in cyberspace!

It goes on to explain that bullying has become a priority for school boards across the country!

To spend more of the taxpayers' hard-earned dollars in a true Liberal fashion the Senate recommended that the Government of Canada also appoint a Children's Commissioner (not unlike a Soviet-era Commissar), to stand up for what it describes as a voiceless segment of society!

Just to add insult to injury, the adult population of Canada is being reminded that Canada ratified a United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child in 1992, which was intended to put children in the centre of family and community. Well where else would have been the children of the past, if not in the centre of their respective families?

Presuming that some of the senators involved in this attack on our country's founding principles are childless; one could give this report at least a second thought before dismissing it all together as another bureaucratic bungle. Liberals were and they still are famous for bungles. You may find interesting, if not a disturbing piece of information on the Internet that, no doubt, are written by lawyers.

It is not surprising that UNICEF welcomed the Senate Report yet, it also criticized it, claiming that it did
