Internet multiplayer games are great, but the lack the intimacy of playing locally. Tauting is so much more sweet to do in person. For that reason alone I give you a compilation of some awesome Xbox 360 local multiplayer games. (listed in no particular order)

Gears of War - A game that seems to be built around the multiplayer experience. Completing the campaign mode with a friend is much more satisfying. Over powered and surround you and brothers in arms will need to uses every bit of your skills and tactics to get out of some tight spots. In the more competitive death match modes, the screen is split in half, making things a bit to cramp. If you have a large TV this won't be much of a problem. The biggest problem with split screen game play is that your competition will know your exact location making it harder for you to sneak up on them.

Madden 08 - Time to put all that smack talking to rest and settle things on the field, a virtual one. Madden has always been the leading football simulation game. Game controls always feel smooth and intuitive. My only problem with the multiplayer aspect of Madden is that you can, if you're sneaky enough, take a quick peak at your opponents next play. (Other sports games like MLB 2k8, NHL 08, and NBA 2k8 are also great multiplayer games for sports lovers)

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw - Up to a 4 player local mulitplayer feature makes WWE Smackdown vs. Raw perfect for those late "study" sessions with friends. Lay the smackdown with your favorite wrestler and show your study buddies whose boss.

Guitar Hero III: Ledgends of Rock - Rock on! Co-op is cool but the real fun is in the battle mode. Face off and rock it like you've never rocked before. Only a 2 player multiplayer functionality. (Rock Band brings the same style of game play as GH III but allows up to 4 players for simultaneous play)

Halo 3 - No Xbox 360 system is complete with out a copy of Halo. Although better know for its online multiplayer functionality, allowing up to 16 players, local multiplayer is still great. Co-op is superb and local competitive battles are suffer from a split screen, an unfortunate effect of local mulitplayer games.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Boys don't use their fists to settle a dispute they use guns. Big manly guns with the occasional rocket launcher for good measure. Just like Halo 3, COD 4 is best when played online. However, local multiplayer is still enjoyable. 16 different maps and 13 different multiplayer settings ranging from death matches to capture the flag.

There you have it ladies and gents. Now that you have the list go out and buy them, order a pizza, invite some friends and cancel any prior commitments.
