Since the debut of the original series "The Apprentice" in 2004, devoted viewers and reality-show addicts across America have tuned in to watch contestants compete against each other to secure a a top earning job within the Trump empire. Bill Rancic, the first contestant to hear the words "you're hired" for one, has made quite a name for himself not only as a Trump employee, but also as an author, having penned "You're Hired: How to Succeed in Business and Life" and "Beyond the Lemonade Stand: Starting Small to make it BIG!."
In the wake of the successful first season, Donald Trump has attempted to recreate the initial media buzz initially received for five subsequent seasons. Celebrity Apprentice is the latest attempt and the seventh installment in the Apprentice series.
Premiering on January 3, 2008, the reality show features celebrity candidates living together in Trump Towers and vying for the title of "Best Business Brain." The winner will have the opportunity to donate his or her proceeds to charity, rather than obtaining employment with Trump, as in previous seasons.
The cast includes a large number of celebrities which have been split into two groups. The men, in group Hydra, and the women, in group Empresario, are pitted against each other in challenges during each episode.
Celebrity contestants include country music star Trace Adkins, model/actress Carol Alt, actor Stephen Baldwin, former Telemundo executive Nely Galan, heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis, editor and America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, ultimate fighting champion Tito Ortiz, and actor Vincent Pastore. Also included in the cast are softball player and Olympic gold medalist Jennie finch, Olympic gold medalist and former gymnast Nadia Comaneci, KISS frontman Gene Simmons, actress Marilu Henner, and Playboy playmate and Miss Georgia USA 2001 Tiffany Fallon. Also making an appearance is Apprentice's season one candidate, the notorious Omorosa, who continues to bring controversy and drama to the series.
It is doubtful that introducing celebrities into the Apprentice competition will help revive the show's rating and recreate the success of the first season. However, it is rather entertaining to see D-List celebrities pitted against one another and thrust back into the limelight after (for some) many years of silence.
