Games for kids are big business. Walk into any toy store and you'll find a bewildering number and range of games aimed at kids of all ages, from the relatively affordable to the prohibitively expensive. So what are the best games for kids right now? Which types of games are popular and why? As you might expect the answer isn't straightforward.
Kid's PC games -
Most kids have access to personal computers these days, at home, school or both. A lot of parents aren't happy with their kids spending their time playing computer games. They worry about a lack of physical activity and social interaction, and that many games are pointless, violent and have little educational value. So here's the good news. A lot of games available for use on pcs and other electronic games consoles are interactive, educational and fun. Kids love games that incorporate favorite TV or movie characters, games they can play with a friend either with interactive games consoles or by taking turns and even spelling/counting/logic games. Kids love their computers, and playing a game on them can seem like fun even if it's obviously teaching them something worthwhile at the same time.
Kid's online games -
Many websites aimed at kids will have fun, free online games available. Most TV channels have a website where kids can play games involving their favorite TV characters, which are a sure-fire hit with kids of all ages. Alternatively google whatever your kid is interested in, from dinosaurs to space travel and you will come across websites offering not only valuable information, but all kinds of games aimed at increasing knowledge on and interest in the subject. If your kid is fascinated by Egyptian mummies, Viking warriors, or Polar animals, he can learn more about them by playing online games.
Kid's board games -
Lots of kids love board games. There's a wide selection on the market, some aimed at a specific age group, many suitable for the whole family. Again, think in terms of what the child's particular interests are. There are board games involving nature, dinosaurs, world travel or fashion! Many of them are educational and they're also a great way to teach younger children the basics regarding turn taking, following the rules and even counting, in an entertaining way. A weekly family games night is a great - and affordable - tradition to start. Remember, one of the reasons kids love playing board games with their family is the attention and interaction they receive from parents during the game.
