Hangovers are caused from toxins from the alcohol and a depletion of water, vitamins, and minerals due to the chemical reactions in the body. Of course the combination of toxins and loss of key nutrients often leave the one with the hangover feeling pretty icky. Hangovers can cause dry mouth, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and sometimes even the jitters. The dehydration caused by the alcohol can also cause headaches and general aches and pains. Of course, with a little morning after care, you can be feeling better quickly.
Water.
Water, lots of water, is one of the best and most important things you can do to help your body recover from a hangover. Not only does it help rehydrate you, it also helps to flush the toxins from your body.
Vitamins.
Your body has been depleted of valuable and important vitamins. It is important to replace them. Vitamin C can help a great deal, however just taking a multivitamin in the morning can assist in replacing the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Acetaminophen.
This pain killer is the best to help relieve your aches and pains when dealing with a hangover. The acid of the alcohol often aggravates the stomach making it a bad idea to take ibuprofen or aspirin. It adds sugars in both fructose which is easily and quickly absorbed by the body and sucrose which will take some time. The milk and banana both offer good ingredients to help replenish the nutrients. Additionally the banana has anti-nausea qualities.
Chicken Noodle Soup.
This is a great comfort food and good for you when you deal with a hangover. Breakfast doesn't normally consist of chicken noodle soup, but on hangover days, it should. You can make your own by boiling a chicken breast, cutting it up, adding egg noodles, and tossing in vegetables. Or you can open up a chunky home style type of soup from the can and heat it up. Both will help you with your nutrients and can be very calming to the body.
Juice.
Juice is a great way to get your sugars and even your vitamins back. You can have juice of all types though some seem to help more then others. Citrus juices help to replace the vitamin c as well as giving you a big boost. Tomato juice is also highly recommended.
