Identifying today's high-demand jobs

Here are my thoughts on today's high demand jobs. Any occupation involving customer service and jobs where there is an increased risk of injury or death like firefighting or law enforcement could be considered high demand jobs. To be honest, all jobs are demanding in some way, either physically, mentally or a combination of both. When you factor in low pay and long hours, the list of jobs gets considerably longer.

Think back to when you got your first job. You were probably a teenager, or maybe a little older. What was that job like? Was the boss tough on you because you were young and green? Was the pay less than spectacular? Did you have to put up with rude customers or co-workers? I'm assuming that you would answer yes to at least one of those questions. Guess what? Things haven't changed much. Jobs like this are still here and like I said before, the list is extensive and no matter what kind of industry you work in there will be aspects of the job which are less than appealing. Low pay on top of an unappreciative boss and demanding customers can take its toll on even the most hardened employee. Most jobs are like this aren't they?

Being self employed definitely has its advantages, but there's a big downside too. It is up to you to come up with a viable product which people want to buy, market it so that it will sell, pay for advertising and all of the other costs of running a business. That means communications, payroll, taxes etc. You are your own boss, but maintaining a business can be a juggling act that never ends.

Taking a closer look at jobs where you must deal with people, it's worth mentioning working as a waiter/waitress or a bartender. Like me you have probably done this before, and you know what I'm talking about when I say that this kind of work can be the most exhausting and demoralizing of all entry level jobs. Customers who yell at you, insane chefs and hellish managers destroy your spirit faster than the miniscule paychecks. I've never understood why people think being rude is the best way to get what they want when it's just as easy to be polite. They almost enjoy behaving like monsters.

Doctors, paramedics and police officers have it tough. You're dealing with people but this time they are sick, diseased, agitated and dangerous. If you were a physician part of your job would be to tell people they have an incurable disease and a minimal, or zero chance of survival.

Finding a job can be an extremely stressful exercise, and I think it's only going to get harder. Just be thankful to be working, because it's better than having no money.
