Selling crafts through your ecommerce store

There's a technique to selling your crafts in your e-commerce store. That's because today, most craft markets are flooded with crafters and artisans selling their goods online. Now, how do you sell your products when your market is flooded? Like I said, there's a technique to it.

It goes without saying that you can take a hobby and turn it into income. You can actually take anything you like to do and turn it into income.

Rule #1 ~ do what you love to do, and excel at what you do.

With the crafts and artisan jewelry markets being absolutely flooded with products, designers and whatnot, it's imperative that you love what you do, otherwise you will get discouraged rather quickly. Sales of these items are not very brisk due to the fact that consumers are overwhelmed with variety. What you need to do is not only love it, but hone your craft and your skills so that your items stand out from the rest.

Originality, uniqueness, and excellent craftsmanship are key to standing out from the crowd. It's fine to be inspired by other crafters work, however don't re-invent the wheel. Be inspired to create unique items. Be inspired to create items that bespeak your skill, and in turn will be almost instantly if not instantly associated with you and your website.

Your workmanship must be impeccable. Never put anything up for sale on your website that is not impeccable and that you yourself would not buy from someone else. If you are having trouble with a technique, a pattern, a stitch, be patient with yourself and do what you need to do to improve your craftsmanship. Then put it up for sale on your website. Never put up second rate creations.

Learn to take great pictures. That's not as easy as pressing the shutter button on the camera!
Sit down and get to know your camera, read the manual, learn it's capabilities, what kind of lighting gives you the desired results, how you can play with the flash, white balance, exposure values (EV settings), backgrounds (what photographs better with darker backgrounds, what photographs better on white backgrounds), try shooting outside, and inside near a window with good daylight coming in. This WILL take you a while to master, but it is worth wonders.
Remember that familiar quote "One picture speaks a thousand words"? That applies here.

Purchase your supplies wisely. Shop around, buy wholesale if you possibly can. Plan your projects ahead, get a good idea of what supplies you will need, and by all means shop around on the internet for quality materials
