Benefits of Light Rail and The Valley's Future:
Introduction:
A time is coming when the Valley will no longer be a single metro area, but a conglomeration of several metro areas combined in to a single united city that runs from Northern Arizona to Southern Arizona. As the Phoenix Metro area grows so does traffic and parking issues as more and more cars flood the streets and highways of the area. In recent years the Phoenix Metro area has grew by 696,000 residents in the past five years and it is estimated that the area will reach four and half million residents by 2020 and six and half million residents by 2035. By creating a light rail system that is accessible and efficient it will add value to communities and businesses that will be indispensable when the area reaches its estimated population within a mere twenty eight years. The light rail system will benefit the valley by reducing car emissions, traffic congestion, lack of parking, businesses that need easy access, and for families that must commute weekly for work. As the Valley Metro area grows these problems will only continue to persist and if the city counsels didn't do something soon there wouldn't be enough time or resources to solve the cities ever growing problems.
Environmental Benefits:
The impact of the Phoenix Metro area's current traffic situation is horrifying nightmare that plays out on the streets every day. With increased warnings by scientists that car emissions are destroying our planets ozone layer and that Global Warming is no longer just a threat-it is our planets reality unless something is done to reverse the damage. By introducing the light rail system to the Phoenix Metro area as an alternative transportation method it will reduce part of the smog pocket that has built up over the Valley while protecting the earths ozone layer in hopes of reversing the damaging affects of Global Warming. Other programs already in place such as Park and Ride, Valley Metro Bus and shuttle program, and Company Carpools have already decreased the valleys traffic congestion since started in 1985. The current light rail construction stretches across twenty miles of the valley stretching from Phoenix to Mesa, but new plans seeking federal and state permission has been unveiled in the past two years saying the light rail systems should stretch from Mesa to Surprise possibly by the year 2025 easing traffic within Maricopa County. It is estimated that in the beginning of the light rail rider-ship will be
