Gift ideas for the elderly

Gift's for the Elderly,

The best gift you can give to an older person is your time. Yes you can go out and buy them something, but most of the time it isn't something they want or need. How ever if you would take fifteen minute's to sit down and cut their finger nail's and talk with them they would enjoy that much more than a box of candy that could make them sick. Older people have to watch what they eat. Some have diabetes or high blood pressure, so food is not the best gift. Some older people are like children, they will eat a hole box of candy without stopping.

Taking the time to ask a person what they did with the life, and tell them that they made a difference in the world today. All they want is to be noticed, to know that getting up this morning was worth while. They love to be ask for advice and believe it or not most of the time they are right. remember that they have already live that life. They were young once, they knew what it was like to be in love or have their heart broken by some young man or woman. They also had children and may have raised as many as ten of them.

Laugh at their stories about little Jimmy cutting his sister's bang's off to the scalp. One more thing that won't cost you a dime is a hug, and the simple words, I love you. If you can make the time to go shopping for a gift, you could have given that time to an older person, and in return you would have been the one who got the best gift of all.

I have found that taking the time to sit down and watch an old TV show with them also is a good thing. Bonanza and Gun Smoke is two of their favorite's. They will more than likely tell you more of about the show than you get to watch. But it is good clean fun, and laughter is good one of the most healing medication's you can give. Going for a walk is also good. Most older people are afraid to get out by themselves. They could fall or get mugged or not be able to find their way back home. Giving a senior citizen a ride to church is a wonderful gift.

The world is about to have more senior citizen's than any other time in history. The nursing home's are already over full with people that their family can't take care of or won't take care of. The one thing you may want to think about, is you are getting older every day. One day that person will be you, wishing someone would take the time to talk to you.
