Getting Back to Basics...

Hard rock shatters hardest as opposed to clay which gives easy
hardened hearts turn to shrapnel in the crucible of your quarry
where you grind them with the mortar and pestle until they are dust and then add water
making it usable form-able malleable and change its very nature
in this heart i have parts that are clay and ready to be used

such as my love for you
also i possess deeper and darker regions that you have searched and known
and I wait to behold them then when you come in with the heavy machinery to break me once again
i will explode into your grace release into your embrace
you catching every part of me seeing and knowing it all and loving still
active you are grabbing my attention with the force of your hammer
and the surrounding mystery of your water and blood
and i
i try to put this to music as i hear it in my head and in my heart
does it make any sense this piece of pottery trying to find a use for itself
if i would have known more i would have surrendered to you long ago
but lies were spoken that needed to be unlearned
and all i see is you patiently waiting as i walk through this space of grace
swim in the sea of reprieve bask in the glow of your wings sweeping low to cover me and all i see
my heart of carbon steel and clay and finer things
if i am a noble vessel it is only because of the investment of the maker in me
to see the renewed one even while the self made abomination was still intact and then pay whatever the cost to secure its security
bring me home to the quarry that owns me
the blood of rock from which i was hewn originally
the one to whom i called out unwittingly all of my life
though i lived in spite and spit at you from the back pew
you never returned that sentiment
always you have been heaven sent
praying for me before prayer was even born as a word
though your heart has been torn unceasingly because of me
though i know the truth of you and yet still go on without
and walk in darkness from time to time because it has been all i have known and chills me with comfort
you love on
