serious threat facing Canada today, an issue that does not play to Conservative strengths. So the Tories would be happy to wrestle the Liberals to an ugly draw on an issue that's hot and getting hotter. (Sorry, I couldn't resist).
Never mind that a federal election may be two years away. The Conservatives came out swinging hard and early, hoping that the news media finally would write about something other than the loud chorus of boo's its environmental proposals received from developed and developing nations alike at a UN-sponsored climate change conference in Africa. At home, a poll revealed that only 17% of the country approves of the government's proposal which says something: The Conservative government's approval rating is at 39% which means that even most Conservatives don't like what their party's own PM is proposing.
Meanwhile, Canadians who watch the Super Bowl will simply use the commercial breaks to do what they always do during commercials: Go to the toilet, then grab another beer and a bag of chips on their way back to the set. A few might try to figure out what all of those Roman numerals mean on the Super Bowl graphic but that's an exercise in futility, especially through the haze of a few bottles of Canadian-strength beer.
