Should US environmental standards apply when multinational companies develop the petroleum resources of fragile ecosystems such as Peru's Amazon?

Title endorsed in part by:

fail to meet the highest possible standards " offshore" when capable of doing so, standards that are strictly required in operations in our own country must be considered abdication of responsibility to civilization and a fundamental abandonment of any moral right to harvest global. Three strikes, and you're OUT.

Ultimately, perhaps disasters that may be caused by neglect regardless of global location should be deemed crimes against humanity and prosecuted as such by world courts.

In a concerned, ethical, and moral adult business world, the process of protecting the Amazon jungles of Peru in the search for oil or other resources would be conducted rigidly without exception.

All aspects of treatment of indigenous peoples would be monitored. Drilling, waste disposal, transportation, gas pipeline construction and environmental evaluation would be conducted in closely controlled operations without exception, methodically and scientifically enacted to ensure the highest possible standards of protection.
A reality check? It is not likely to happen. It is not cost-effective or profitable to do so.

Irreparable damage to the delicate, unique Amazon ecosystems, the indigenous peoples in Peru and the permanent destruction of livelihoods and their very lives cannot be ethically or morally justified regardless of economics and profit.
Catastrophic damage to one of the jewels of the globe, the "lungs of the earth" is unacceptable and unthinkable, and is occurring NOW. It cannot be ignored.

Such a travesty against mankind should not be allowed to continue -even if paid for with satellite television, the internet, trinkets, hollow promises, western "culture", and noisy tin roofs.
YES, U.S. environmental standards and better should apply when multinational companies develop the petroleum resources of fragile ecosystems such as Peru's Amazon.

"I must tell civilization what I expect of it for in not doing so I must despise myself " comes to mind.
Do not make excuses. The gloves are off.
