Single-Parent dating . The words echo across the room. Most of the time you hear the topic brought up by the woman dater , but what about us men that are also single-parents? Granted , we are few and far between , but there are those men out there that have children , too , and dating for us can be just as difficult as for the female single-parent.
For most single men the dating scene is hard enough to enter without children but when you add the factor of a child , it even becomes more difficult to find a woman that is interested in you and not how you came to be a single-parent !
Until recently I was a single-parent dater and I have a few tips that I used to break into the dating scene.
First and foremost ... be honest. Honesty is always the best policy. If you start a relationship off with lies and deceit then there is sure to be problems later on. I try not to bring the kids up in the conversation on the first date but by the third date you should have all of your cards on the table. Most first dates end as that ... first dates and no second date. Sometimes it just doesn't "Click" and there is no need to be all up-front the first date.
Another good tip is where you find your date. This can be as important as who your date is. You have to remember that you are a parent and then think of the type of woman you would want for a wife for your children. Some may think that you shouldn't think that far down the road but isn't that what you are hoping for? A good woman that will make you a good wife and a good step-mother for your children?
When looking for a lady for a potential date I do not go to clubs or bars. It is not my interest to find a woman that has a habit of drinking or clubbing. I am looking for a woman for a wife , someone I can spend the rest of my life with and be proud of. I tend to go to the grocery store and mall and look at where and what a lady shops for. I want a woman that has good style and good shopping techniques.
Thats not to say that this would work for you. I have friends that are sports nuts and like to drink a beer and have a pizza on game day. For them this may not work. I have a very good friend that met his wife in a sports bar. It was play-offs and they were both there enjoying the game together , they met, and thirteen years later are very happy together.
Another tip for the single-parent dater is for the man that looks at dating sites on the Internet. Most of the time I would say this is taboo and not to do it but , I have to
