Professional and do-it-yourself carpet cleaning options

Hot water extraction, sometimes called steam cleaning, is usually the most effective means to clean your carpets. It also costs less than dry chemical cleaning. Expect a drying time of 6-24 hours depending on the density of the carpet and the humidity and temperature of the air. Pick a warm, dry day if possible. Leave your windows open.

It is important that only a trained professional attempt this method. If not done properly there is a risk of separating the carpet from its backing. Wool Berber and olefin carpet may be damaged by steam cleaning. Occasionally, yellow streaks or chemical burns result from hot water extraction methods. Use dry chemical cleaning if you have this type of carpeting.

Dry chemical cleaning involves the use of a floor buffer and solvent. Don't be confused by its name. Dry chemical does use a wet cleaning solvent. This is removed by the floor buffer (with a cotton bonnet). Unlike hot water extraction, though, dry chemical cleaning is dry within one to three hours.

Carpet provides fashionable, versatile, and practical floor covering. Your carpet adds warmth and insulation. It provides a non-slip (safer) surface and reduces sound. We also lay on it while we play boardgames, our children crawl on it, and unfortunately we spill on it, trample it, and neglect it. Isn't it about time you treated your carpet to a deep cleaning, for all it does for you?
