Memoirs: Moments that change your life

lie anymore.

"Well, okay, so I do need you to help me," I begged. Sobbing through tears, I explained my fear of going bald. "I have cancer, so I need hair to spare," I cried right in front of that guy. Looking around the room, he asked me to look around too. "You've come to the right place," he said with a smile on his face. Needless to say, I was mortified, but the guy only smiled when he pulled up a chair and motioned for me to sit there. "I know just what you need," he reassured me. Leaving me there, he began to search for the perfect head of hair, but the next thing I knew, he'd come back with two. "Meet Thelma and Louise," the tattooed guy said excitedly.

Thelma was a mysterious brunette, and Louise was a voluptuous blonde. He thought she could be just for fun. synthetic wigs are what you need," the guy told me. The style would always remain in place, and besides, they'd gone on sale that very day. Since I could buy two for the price of one, I eagerly tried both on, and when I looked in the mirror, the guy almost cried when he said, "You look gorgeous in each." Oddly enough, I agreed and suddenly, I began to feel glamours as if Thelma and Louise were made just for me.

After that, the guy who previously seemed to be a criminal to me, became what I can only describe as a heaven sent friend in the end. He wrapped them up, gave me a hug and walked me to the door, and by the time I walked out of that store, I had more hair than I'd ever had before. Carefully, I placed Thelma and Louse in the passenger's seat and waved good bye to that tattooed guy, my angel in disguise.

With peace of mind and completely at ease, I threw caution to the wind when I rolled the windows down and raced through the rough side of town. "I'll never be bald," I shouted gleefully. Thelma and Louse seemed to agree and we must have been a sight to see. With the wind in our hair, the radio blared, but somewhere along the way, I believe I hard God say, "I've given you the power to change your destiny."

The only reply that came to my mind in that moment in time was to say, "Amen." And so it is. The months went by, and to my Oncologist's surprise, I never lost one hair on my hard head. "It's impossible," he said. Who knew what a prayer or two and a determined mind could do? With a full head of hair and hair to spare, I survived chemotherapy and today, I remain cancer free.

Since I never went bald, I didn't need spare hair at all. Still, the tattooed guy was right. Thelma and Louse were fun for a while. They arrived in that moment of time to change my life. They were there to make me aware that, in fact, God provides abundantly. He gave me the power to change my destiny, and through those wigs, He told me that I'd never be bald unless I chose to be. That's why it's wise to pay attention to those moments in time that provide the opportunity to change you life.

With a determined mind, you'll find the courage it takes to face what makes you afraid. You'll go out on a limb now and then and when you do, you'll find the faith it takes to move a mountain or two. You'll achieve impossible dreams, because you see, with hope and faith, God provides the amazing grace it takes to clearly see that we always have more than enough of what we need. Amazing grace makes a hard time become a blessing in disguise, and when you dare to go out on a limb and trust Him, rough looking guys become heaven sent friends in the end. At least, that's what happened to me. It was just a moment in time, but it changed my life, so that I could find peace of mind at any given time and be victim free, the way God intended me to be. That's why I tell everyone I meet the story of Thelma, Louise and me.
