A Vote for McCain=a Vote for Obama
It is hard to describe a cartoon in words, but I will always remember a laugh-out-loud one I saw in 1972. A caricature of Richard Nixon was in a front row seat at the Democrat National Convention. The devilish Nixon had his knees drawn up and his hands raised in salute, his mouth showing lots of teeth in a wider-than-life smile. What was a Republican cheering at a Democrat Convention? Why, the nomination of George McGovern, of course. Nixon wanted McGovern and later destroyed him in the general election. Obama, Edwards, and Hillary want McCain. Notice that he was the only Republican candidate mentioned in their debate? Notice they only mention John McCain as the frontrunner?
Why do they want him? Because they know they can beat him. John McCain is a genuine American military hero. He fights earmarks and other big spending and corruption. So what is not to like? First, he was largely unsuccessful in these endeavors. I do not blame him for that, but I do blame him for not knowing how to fight these battles. He voted against the Bush tax cuts-twice. Ok, I know that you have heard that ad-nauseam. His reason for doing it is what cuts to the core of who John McCain is. He voted against them because he wanted spending cuts first. Senator, the bill in front of you was for tax cuts, not spending cuts. What congressperson of his age and experience does not know that when you cut taxes, you increase tax revenue? Increasing tax revenue gives you a better chance at cutting spending. So he voted against the very thing he believes in most. I don't believe that John McCain understands this and there is simply no excuse for that. It shows that he is not a logical, cognitive thinker and that is anathema to someone aspiring to the most powerful position in the world.
Now about his other shortcomings: McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform. Another example of good intentions, but terrible implementation and disastrous results. McCain's only excuse for this attack on liberty has to be that he did not read it. My fear, however, is that he did read it, but did not understand it. Again, he is unable to think sequentially two or three steps past a decision to the possible-no probable consequences of his actions.
Need I go into immigration? He either does not understand the bill he joined with Kennedy in promoting, or he is simply unable to articulate it. When asked about the twelve million illegals
