Educating the drinker on the dangers of drunk driving

Lorenzo 107). Imagine the feelings of the two ex-parents towards people like Nicole Richie. People like Nicole Richie, who have the resources to make a difference yet use the resources in another opposite direction. Drunk driving would be much more looked down upon if the media converted to the idea of responsible drinking.

The following facts points towards the seriousness of the number of individuals victimized as a result of drunk driving. According to an article by Louise Prime; In England and whales alone, 2,915 people died as a result of drunk driving as opposed to the 496 deaths from HIV aids (34). However horrifying these statistics may seem, the English government has made no move to lower the BAC level, which is at 80mg/100ml (much higher than the U.S. and most other countries). The drinking problem is much more widespread in Europe than in the United States because Europe's society has fallen into a culture that is absorbed by partying. The journalist who discovered the information concluded that "[T]he only safe option must be don't drink then drive" (Prime, Louise 34).

Given the evidence, drunk driving is a problem that requires the utmost attention of the nation's judicial system and political groups. Reducing the BAC level to zero would not be wise, because tests may prove positive for people who use mouthwash or have diabetes, but using other methods. One method proposed was installing a device that made it impossible for a drunk to start the car up and drive ("State of Drunk Driving" 16). Though this method seems practical, it would be difficult to have such a device installed on all the vehicles that are out there already, let alone the ones being manufactured. No, the best solution is still that of the European journalist who concluded that "[T]he only safe option must be don't drink then drive." Even more important is the fact that the media should be on the same page, due to the fact that they have a far greater impact then any law passed by any government.
