Educating the drinker on the dangers of drunk driving

in Lynwood, California. The woman was pulled over after being issued a DYI (driving while intoxicated) for driving over 20 minutes in the wrong lane of the highway after a party. Nicole Richie served only half of her time in jail because the jail cell became overcrowded. She labels the jail experience in her memoir as "It's like rehab, but without the blah blah blah" (Feschuk, Scott 103). The celebrity obviously felt no remorse for her actions. According to her memoir "[Nicole Richie] learned never to start watching a movie in prison because what happens if you get released before it's over. Now I'll never know if Spider-Man ends up beating the octopus doctor. Life is UNFAIR!" (Feschuk, Scott 103). The short-lived jail experience for Nicole was not looked down upon by the media, but actually considered as a prospect for a movie production, starring Dane Cook (as the Warden) and Nicole Richie as Nicole Richie. Could stricter penalties for an offense, like Nicole's that could result in the terrible loss of a life, be called for? Nicole Richie's attitude is not the only thing that is unacceptable; it is the majority of the Hollywood agenda that is unacceptable. You don't have to look hard to find a movie that does not encourage drinking irresponsibly and "blah blah blah" (Feschuk, Scott 103) attitudes like Nicole Richie are not scarce either. Nicole Richie is clearly not the best role model for people, but she regretfully impacts a large number of people from being in the spotlight so often. Should this, and the fact that she clearly can afford the expense of any drunk driving ticket much easier than the average pull over, be considered by the judge issuing the penalty? Judging from her attitude, it would be foolish not to increase her penalties.

For ex-parents Bob and Carmen Pack the matter of drunk driving is not "blah blah blah." One day Bob and Carmen walked out of their home in Danville, California to get ice cream with their children Troy, 10, and Alana, 7. Suddenly, a drunk driver, seeming to come from nowhere drove onto the sidewalk where the children were walking, killing them both (Benet, Lorenzo 107). Since that day, the couple has fought with depression and suicide thoughts. They could not escape the loss of their loved ones, and decided to do something about it. In 2004 they started the Troy and Alana Pack Foundation which rose over $250,000 dollars for traffic-safety programs, and helped to educate High school students about drunk driving (Benet,
