Tailgating is a long standing tradition for sports fans and game patrons. It is fun to experience the anticipation of the big game in the company of your friends and other sports fans. Here are some suggestions for making your tailgating party the most popular:
Arrive Early: Find out when your stadium parking lot opens. Usually this is around five hours before the game starts, sometimes more or less. If you are at the parking lot when it opens you will be able to find a good parking spot.
Show Your Spirit: Serious tailgaters display their team colors proudly. Of course, your apparel should reflect the team you are rooting for. Along with that, you can have team folding chairs, tents, and flags.
Be Friendly: If you want your tailgating spot to be popular, you will have to be friendly to the other fans. Say hello, offer them a snack if you wish, and visit their parking spot.
Bring Everything: Nothing ruins a tailgating party like forgetting something important. Here is a list of what you will want to pack for the day:
~ A Portable Television: Your tailgating party will be popular if you can keep the parking lot up to date on the other games that are playing. This is especially helpful during playoff season.
~ A Table: If you bring a table, you can use the back of your truck or SUV as extra seating space. A card table is ideal.
~ Chairs: Bring enough chairs for you and a few other people. Folding chairs are best.
~ Snacks: Bring plenty of munchies. Chips and crackers are good, and make sure you have plenty of dip or spread.
~ Blankets: You'll want to be comfortable sitting in the parking lot. Bring a blanket in case it gets windy or chilly.
~ An Easy Up: A tent is essential because it provides protection from sun and rain. Your tailgating party will not be popular without some sort of shade or rain protection.
~ Food: Always plan your menu the day before. Bring enough food for yourself and your family, as well as a few other people.
~ Plates and Utensils: Bring paper plates and plastic forks and knives, and you won't have to drag home a bunch of dirty dishes.
~ Drinks: You'll want to have plenty of beer, of course. Find out before the drink of choice of your guests, and be sure to bring non-alcoholic drinks as well.
~ Game Tickets: People do it all the time. Don't forget the tickets to the game!
