Before you begin your job search, there are a few tasks that must be completed.

1.) Prepare a resume. If you prepare a resume yourself, then have a few of your friends look it over for you. Ask them to point out any spelling mistakes and get their opinion on the general layout. You also have the option to go to a professional resume writer. You can usually find a list of these professionals in your local newspaper along with a listing of available jobs.

2.) Proper Grooming. You want to look your best for your interviews, so make sure that your hair is neatly and fashionably styled. If it has been a while since your last trim, then off to the salon you go.

3.) Proper Attire. Look through your closets for one or two outfits that are conservative, stylish, and professional. If you find that you only have jeans and t-shirts, then you need to go shopping. For men, slacks with a button-down shirt and tie will do nicely. Ladies, slacks or a skirt and a matching blouse or sweater will be fine. Make sure that shoes and belts match and all items of clothing are pressed and clean. Of course, business suits are always acceptable.

Once you have taken care of these tasks, then you are ready to begin searching for a job.

Most companies have a careers page on their web page where you can apply for a position and post your resume. Be prepared for questionnaires. Many companies are requiring these pre-employment questionnaires to see if you will be a good fit for their company. Answer carefully and watch your spelling. Be consistent with your answers. Often, these questionnaires will ask you the same question multiple times in a slightly different wording to see if you remain consistent.

2.) If you don't know a specific business you would like to work for, then you should purchase a local newspaper and search the job listings pages. Consider what type of work you are qualified for and what might interest you. Circle any jobs that you feel qualified to perform. Once you have circled or highlighted all the positions of interest, then you need to call to request an interview or send your resume with a cover letter if the ad includes a fax number, email address, or mailing address.

3.) The internet can be a great tool when searching for a job. You should consider posting your resume on sites such as monster.com, careerchange.com,
