Why men lie

I am not at all sure why this question could not be about woman as well. Surely woman lie , on average, just as much.
Perhaps men lie ' differently', in a sort of 'he is from Mars, she is from Venus' difference!
Is a lie a big deal? For woman it is! Generally for us a lie is a lie, while men seem to have a kind of ' Richter scale' for lies by which they judge how harmless or damaging it will be.

Problem is, the distance from ' harmless' to ' dangerous' is much shorter on a woman's Richter scale of lies.
A man may lie without thinking, just because he spontaneously judges the consequences that the truth would have.
' Darling, what Club did you do to last night?'
'Oh, we just went to the wine bar in the end!' ( Thought bubble: 'not gonna tell you about the lap dancing club because I know you would go mad!)

Men like peace, they don't like confrontation, they don't like dramas. If a little white lie can avoid an argument, why not tell it? Or so is the thinking on Mars.

Then there are ' little boys' lies:
' Darling, did you not take the dog out last night? There is a big puddle in the kitchen!'
' Oh, I took him out last night. Don't know why that happened!' ( Thought bubble:' oohps, I completely forgot...')

Then they are those lies which , allegedly, happen because we- woman- don't really want to hear the truth!

'Darling, I have this huge spot on my chin, I don't think I can go out tonight! It's bad, isn't it?'
' Let me see...its hardly noticeable, nobody will see it!' ( Thought bubble:' thats a monster-of -a -spot she has there! Hope she'll use a concealer!')

Men also seem to be very forgetful when it comes to lying. How often have you told your man that you would rather hear the truth, or that he shouldn't lie like a silly little boy?
Still, the lies keep coming. Thoughtless little lies, but lies nonetheless.

Do men and woman have different definitions for ' honesty'? It seems so.
The boundaries of male honesty are much more fluid than woman who have pretty rigid ones.
A lie, you may say, is a lie.

Of course not all men tell lies, no even little white ones. It is just a touch pathetic, isn't it, when a grown man can't face up to his actions ( ' went to the lap dancing club')
or thinks he will be ' told off'! ( for not taking out the dog)
I suspect that it is the little boy in men who operates when telling a lie. Grown up men wouldn't do it...would they?
