The steps that need to be taken towards happiness are footprints in a blizzard. More often than not when we are once again unhappy, we try to trace our steps back to remember where our trek began and find that they have been lost in the snow. Recently I have been doing things in my own life to better my situation and my attitude, while it has worked, others have gave me false hopes of perceiving things the way that they will be, happening right now. This is not plausible and a good way to derail the happy train.
While we can't deny ourselves the truth that it is us alone who control what we do, it is also important to keep in mind, instant gratification is a drug. Each one of these footprints represents one step closer to a goal and each goal equates to being closer to that happiness. When the road forks it is a good idea to always trudge your own path straight through the middle. It is easy to fall into that drug of gratification and fork to find that girl or take that drug and then once again, you have lost your way.
Too many times in our lives, we set to find something better when things are not exactly how we would like them. Rather than looking to the future and a lineal route, we look at the past to remember and fantasize about certain details and aspects of greater times. This is a delicate state to be in and will generally result in less than favorable results because of irrational behavior and actions.
How many times have we called that ex-lover to rekindle an old fling? How much money has been spent at the pub when lonely or because work has become monotonous? I know that I am guilty of all of the above. Happiness, in my opinion, undoubtedly comes from ambition and responsibility. Sure, we are human and attitude plays a significant roll. When you feel accomplished however, our mind and soul tends to be more at ease.
To know what is important and have the will to not be sidetracked, it will be easier remembered where you had started and where you are going. You have been going in a straight line. This is better than trying to run around and find and back trek through all of these forked roads, they will meet you in the end.
