Money-saving tips: How to lower your electric bill

bill if it's incorrect. Your bill will also tell you if it's an "actual reading" or an "average reading." If it's an average reading and you have been keeping up with your own meter, you can let the company know if they have charged you too much.

Some electric companies have peak times for electric use. Find out what the local electric company considers peak times and wash clothes and run the dishwasher during the off peak hours.

Educate your children and teach them good habits. Children are sometimes at fault by leaving on lights, televisions, and radios. Encourage them to turn it off when it's not needed. Make sure children aren't sneaking to turn the thermostat up or down.

If the doors are drafty, install seals around the facing. Place towels at the bottom of the doors to keep in the heat. Place rolled up towels in windowsills and at the bottom of doors to keep drafts at a minimum.

You can also make fancy "door snakes" instead of using towels. These are long tubes of fabric filled with poly-fill or fabrics scraps. These "snakes" absorb the cold drafts in doors and windows and keep the cold out.

Install insulation in the attic and under the house to reduce drafts. Make sure you wear a mask because breathing in the pink insulation can really make you sick. Hire a handyman to do it for you. Even with the added costs of buying the insulation and having someone install it, you're still saving money on your electric bill.

These valuable tips will lower the electric bill intensely. Start today and keep up the electric saving habits and watch the bill reduce drastically.
