Reflections: My pledge to humanity

I solemnly swear that I will express my opinions while making sure to respect the opinions of others.

I swear that I will do my best to never allow whatever cynicism I have gathered along my life's journey to completely deflate my faith and hope in humanity.

I swear to always do my best to be a role model to my daughter.

I will be a role model by teaching her that not only is it alright to be different, but that she must insist on being different. I will teach her to never back down from who she is, and to never succumb to group-think.

Most of all, I will teach her that it is more important to take the right road instead of the easy road.

I swear to always be civil to cashiers, waiters flight attendants, and anyone else who serves the public, no matter how bad of a mood I'm in, until I am honestly too old to care.

I swear to remind myself that our elderly must not be thrown away as our society has a tendency to do with them, and to treat them with love and respect.

I swear to always treat the mentally ill with every amount of dignity I would someone who were lucky enough not to be afflicted with such burdens. It is not fair that the genuinely sick are treated like animals, and are so grateful when anyone shows them any ounce of kindness.

I swear to try to give the homeless in this country a voice. Our homeless population is out of control, and I see little being done to stop it.

I swear to remember that every drug addict or prostitute you see who's faces are blurred on the television is somebody's daughter or son. They weren't born the bane of existence; things happened in their lives to make them this way.

I swear to bring light to the fact that our society breeds criminals and then locks them up in the cages that is our federal prisons.

I swear to remind everyone that children are never meant to be born, and parents owe their children not just a safe and happy childhood, but the world.

I swear to remember our troops during every holiday, and to silently thank them for their sacrifices.

I swear, above all, as long as I have breath in this body, to speak my mind.
