The Electoral College: Does my vote mean anything?

its presidential selection system to be more democratic and responsive to the will of its people. Our populace is much better educated than just after independence, so it is time for the presidential election to be as clear and open as possible.

There is no good purpose to be served by a major section of the American population to feel that a presidential election was stolen whether due to vote counting technology, improper vote handling/storage, recount subterfuge or the outmoded electoral college system. America is the world's most powerful nation and what our president decides can affect anyone and any nation on earth. That makes it imperative that the will of the majority of American voters be respected.

Otherwise, it is likely that America will continue to have presidents chosen due to technicalities, something which does not burnish the reputation of our form of government. At a time when America says it engages in war in far off lands in order to sponsor democracy, America should do everything possible to make its own elections as representative as possible.
It is even possible that more eligible Americans would actually vote, if they knew it was a direct election and not subject to machinations of local officials in some other state.
