How can you describe the inner workings of a serial murderer, disseminating the evil from the honor, becoming one with the mind of a methodical mastermind of deception? I would hesitate a guess to such a grisly question but if you wanted a viable answer I would point you to Dexter, the latest smash hit to hit the movie channel circuit. We have seen murder most foul from every possible angle, whether it is the cop who hunts them, or the investigators that has to prove the evidence. Now comes along this abnormality of macabre to spin the killer in a new light, defining him as being a vigilante of sorts. The viewpoint is both bold, and almost as discerning since the killer is also employed by the police as a blood spatter analyst.
Dexter plays the character of an unfeeling professed serial killer, and throughout the show he narrates his thoughts versus his actions to give the viewer a better understanding of how a serial killer thinks. The serial killer that lurks within Dexter is the result or repercussion from a series of events that begin to cleverly unfold, revealing the truth about his birth parents, and the secret that his adopted father had kept from him for so many years.
Dexter's character is devilishly fiendish, and his dry wit seems to grab you as he charts his way using a moral compass built by what he considers his "code!" The show jumps back and forth through time revealing more of the inner "Dexter" and uncovering his own father's role in creating him. Michael C Hall breathes fresh life into the Dexter role, and has rightfully been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Although the show Dexter was given breath by the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay, no one could have predicted the wide success that would be shared by screenwriter James Manos, Jr. They did not realize that Dexter would be critically acclaimed and would take the airwaves by a silent storm. Fans have fallen in love with Jennifer Carpenter and her quirky character as Dexter's little sister, and fellow officer of the law. The on set chemistry is a major component to the shows success which has just completed the second season and have confirmed a third and possibly fourth will soon follow.
Evil is a mildly strange line that is treaded by the main character Dexter Morgan, and even stranger is that you will soon be cheering him on as he leaves a messy trail of victims. Not only will you be cheering him on, you will even find yourself getting excited as you hope he chooses your choice for his next kill. Whether you're rooting for Sergeant James Doakes, or the maniacal Dexter himself, you won't be able to help yourself from anticipating each next episode with bated breath
I urge anyone to try watching the first three episodes to truly begin to catch the "Dexter Fever," and I am sure you will not be disappointed. The story of a serial killer being a cop is almost too absurd to even be considered, but so cleverly written that you will not be able to miss a single episode. Soon enough you will be wondering whom the "Ice Truck Killer is, or who actually might know Dexter's dark little secret? If you're up for a good drama with a C.S.I. like atmosphere, blanketed with a deliciously sinful humor, than look no further; his name is Dexter Morgan!
