Love at first site, romantic proposals, people staying with each other until they die. These concepts were always a dream of mine, but I never thought they would happen to me - until I met the woman that I would eventually marry.
It all started at a call center that we were working at. I was a level 2 tech support expert dealing with stupid technical questions. I would spend my days pacing back and forth around my cubicle telling people to get new batteries for their wireless keyboards or encouraging them to get shorter phone cords. It was a good job, but there wasn't much to look forward to. Until one day the empty cubes near my desk filled up with trainees. It would appear that the company was instituting a new on-the-job training program for level 1 techs (billing experts).
I was just sitting there when I saw this gorgeous girl sitting there talking on a call. I found myself staring at her for about somewhere between 1 and 60 minutes. I kind of lost track of time. She saw me staring and my "flight or fight" instincts kicked in and quickly dropped back into my cubicle. She would later tell me that I looked a lot like a mere cat from one of those Discover Channel documentaries. She was beautiful and I was entranced from the first moment.
She would later finish training and be assigned to the night shift. I was still working on the day shift and our schedule only had about a four hour overlap. I got to talk to her a few times in the smoking area and I found that she smoked the same brand of cloves that I did and we had similar tastes in music (and the same sense of fashion as to the point where we plan out what we like to wear the night before). So, now I knew that she was beautiful, smart, funny, and had good taste. I would often hint at asking her out some time, but could never work up the courage for it. Little did I know that she was attracted to me as well.
Every day our break schedule was emailed to us and it was up to each of us to look up our schedule and follow it. I looked to see if my last break and her first break coincided. If there was a close enough gap (say, 15-30 minutes), I would purposely get caught on a call so that my break would run late just so I could chat with her. I would later find out that this is a form of stalking - go figure.
One night I was waiting for a friend to pick me up from work and after about an hour of waiting I got a buzz on my pager (cell phones weren't affordable yet). It was my friend. He had gotten
