The aging process is triggered when harmful free-radicals attack human cells; consequently, the cells are destroyed and our bodies encounter irreversible damage. Consuming a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables will benefit your overall health. Furthermore, some foods pack enough antioxidant power to combat free-radicals prior to cell interaction. So, which sources of food channel the highest levels of antioxidants throughout the human body?
1. Berries
Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, and strawberries easily ranked the highest when it came to measuring levels of antioxidants. Research has shown that one serving of berries will supply you with enough antioxidants to ward off diseases for a single day. These diseases include heart disease and cancer, both of which are increasing at a rapid rate. Although, russet potatoes have gained a bad reputation for carbohydrates, these powerhouses are, surprisingly, rich in antioxidants.
4. Artichokes
Another surprising victory, artichokes offer significant doses of disease-fighting antioxidants. Silymarin, the main antioxidant, fights skin cancer and reduces cholesterol levels.
5. Garlic
Nothing short of a miracle, garlic, is an ancient remedy for healing the body. This full-flavored herb reduces levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, prevents blood clotting, and slows the aging process with an impressive amount of antioxidants. In addition, garlic aids in preventing heart disease and cancer.
6. Broccoli
The benefits of this colorful, green vegetable include fending off numerous types of cancer and heart disease. Broccoli is, especially, healthy for woman due to its amazing capability to fight precancerous cells which may evolve into breast cancer and cancer of the ovaries and cervix.
