Your Best Sources for Antioxidants

The aging process is triggered when harmful free-radicals attack human cells; consequently, the cells are destroyed and our bodies encounter irreversible damage. Consuming a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables will benefit your overall health. Furthermore, some foods pack enough antioxidant power to combat free-radicals prior to cell interaction. So, which sources of food channel the highest levels of antioxidants throughout the human body?

1. Berries
Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, and strawberries easily ranked the highest when it came to measuring levels of antioxidants. Research has shown that one serving of berries will supply you with enough antioxidants to ward off diseases for a single day. These diseases include heart disease and cancer, both of which are increasing at a rapid rate. Although, not as popular, purple berries, such as elderberry, chokeberry, and black currant, deliver even higher levels of antioxidants and promise to secure a spot in the future as, perhaps, the most healthiest berries.

2. Beans
Recent studies have concluded that red, pinto, and kidney beans are highly effective at fighting diseases with their abundance of antioxidants. The vast majority of beans contain loads of nutrients, such as, iron, potassium, and calcium and have an earned a spot as the best source for antioxidants among vegetables.

3. Potatoes
Although, russet potatoes have gained a bad reputation for carbohydrates, these powerhouses are, surprisingly, rich in antioxidants.

4. Artichokes
Another surprising victory, artichokes offer significant doses of disease-fighting antioxidants. Silymarin, the main antioxidant, fights skin cancer and reduces cholesterol levels.

5. Garlic
Nothing short of a miracle, garlic, is an ancient remedy for healing the body. This full-flavored herb reduces levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, prevents blood clotting, and slows the aging process with an impressive amount of antioxidants. In addition, garlic aids in preventing heart disease and cancer.

6. Broccoli
The benefits of this colorful, green vegetable include fending off numerous types of cancer and heart disease. Broccoli is, especially, healthy for woman due to its amazing capability to fight precancerous cells which may evolve into breast cancer and cancer of the ovaries and cervix.

7. Spinach
Lutein, the primary antioxidant found in spinach, has proven to support healthy vision and studies have shown that people were more likely
