Predicting the next technological invention

Advances in the practical applications of quantum mechanics will make many things possible that until now only existed in hollywood moview and sci-fi books.

Robots

Small solid state giros that use quantum principles and are more accurate, durable and certainly far less expensive than the most accurate giros being used for auto pilots in commercial aircraft today are actually be ing produced and used in a personal transportation device with 2 parallel wheels, the Seagway, that can balance upright. This advance alone will make it possible to automate things that require a computer or robot to navigate where humans navigate today, opening the door to real and practical consumer robotic applications, especially when combined with global positioning system (GPS) technologies.

Nano Technology

Advances in nano technoilogies are making possible extremely advanced structures on very small scales. Molecule sized motors, tubes and shapes the size of atoms will allow scientists to manipulate molecular and genetic structures like never before. Already today we have carbon structures that are stronger than steel but lighter than plastics. Applications in medicine include tiny devices to deliver precise doses of highly concentrated medicines, perhaps making the treatment of diabetes a one time injection that will control insuline levels far better than is possible today. A treatment that is almost a cure.
